Important Registration Regulations for Exporting Health Care Products to Vietnam

"/

With the continuous improvement of living standards in recent years, the Vietnamese people’s demands for healthcare products have increased significantly. Compared with others, Vietnamese acceptance of healthcare products is later than most other countries. It was only in the 1990s that healthcare products, mainly imported from the United States, gradually entered the Vietnamese market. Later healthcare products from China, South Korea, Belgium and a number of other countries also started entering the Vietnamese market. Due to the small scale of domestic production and relatively limited varieties, the sales of healthcare products in Vietnam are still mainly dependent on imports.

According to statistics, there are approximately 1,800 companies that produce and sell health products in Vietnam with a total of 10,000 varieties. What kind of issues do foreign companies need to pay attention to when trying to enter the Vietnamese market? Today, Ddu will give you a brief introduction on how to cross the first threshold from the perspective of registration in regards to exporting products to Vietnam.

In Vietnam, functional foods (TPCN, Thựcphẩmchứcnăng) are used to support (restore, maintain or enhance) the function of human organs, with (or without) nutritional effects, these foods (or products) can make our bodies comfortable, enhance the capacity of resistance and reduce the risk of contracting diseases. According to their purpose, the content of trace elements and the method of ingestion, functional foods are also divided into trace element supplements, food supplements, health products and nutritional products.

If you want to export functional foods to Vietnam, the first step is to register with the Food Safety Department (Cục An toàn thực phẩm) under the jurisdiction of the Ministry of Health of Vietnam to obtain a “passport” for selling in Vietnam. The valid duration for a registration certificate is 3 years.
According to the Vietnamese Decree 38/2012/ND-CP, registration requires the submission of the following documents:
1. Detailed product information (requires the signature and official seal of the person in charge of the manufacturer);
2. A free sales certificate issued by the competent authority of the country of origin or other equivalent documents to prove that the product complies with local regulations (subject to embassy accreditation);
3. Inspection report issued by the national competent authority, an independent Vietnamese laboratory (original or notarized copy) or a local laboratory of the original country (original or copy certified by the embassy) approved by the competent national authority within the last 12 months, the test report should cover the main quality and safety indicators;
4. Internal self-inspection plans and reports from the enterprise;
5. Labels language used in the country of origin and labels in Vietnamese;
6. Product samples;
7. A business license containing the scope of food business;
8. Certificates to prove that the production facility meets the food safety requirements;
9. Certificate of HACCP or ISO 22000 or equivalent (notarized copy).

Here are 2 recommended practical websites regarding the exporting of healthcare products to Vietnam.
1. Ministry of Health of Vietnam: http://www.moh.gov.vn/
The official website of the Ministry of Health of Vietnam where you can check the latest official policies.
2. Vietnam Functional Food Association: http://www.vads.org.vn/
The website has a lot of market conditions related to Vietnamese health products.

Pharmaceutical exports; how to approach marketing research

"/

Identifying the right clients is a common challenge when it comes to product exporting issues. This is why well-organized marketing research which is precise and reliable can be the key to assist you to work out a clear working plan.
As an example, Ddu is going to take the pharmaceutical field to show you how to conduct trustworthy marketing research.
  1. Target Market Overview
The first step is to collect the targeted country’s market overview, which should include the common & official language, religion, population & age composition, neonatal ratio, capital, main cities, economic profile, per capita consumption capacity, recent government events and so forth.
With this information, we can get a rough picture of the target market within a short time.
  1. Medical Industry Overview
Since we are talking about pharmaceutical exports, the overview of the targeted local medical market should first be identified, which could be an important indicator for further marketing assessments.
  1. Medical Resources
Include public and private hospitals, clinics, pharmacies, and the number of doctors, pharmacists, and nursing staff. Additionally, the medical insurance system could also serve as a direction of investigation: whether there is national medical insurance plus the percentage and its penetration rate.

  1. Epidemic Information
A summary of epidemic outbreak information in recent years, especially the top 10 ranking epidemics, or the top 10 diseases responsible for the leading causes of death.
Tip: You can use the official website of the World Health Organization (WHO) to access the last updated information regarding national health.
  1. Import And Export Overview
Local pharmaceutical product research and development, production capacity, pharmaceutical trade import and export ratios, major importing and exporting countries and so forth.
  1. Pharmaceutical Enterprise
The ranking of pharmaceutical enterprises within a target market (which could later become a potential customer resource library), the most popular sale varieties and the original drug & generics drug market shares.
  1. Products Analysis
After completing industry and target market background research, start looking at product-related data.
  1. Market Volume And Outlook
Generally, the total market volume of the product can be calculated based on the total population and disease incidence.
Tip: Searching keywords on Google can also be effective.
  1. Product Treatment Plan
The first and second line of treatment options for the indications of medical products.
The indications for pharmaceuticals are determined and the target population is also fixed. However, due to the different medical and economic development levels of each country, there will be variances existing in regards to treatment options and drug selections. Therefore, determine which pharmaceuticals doctors are more inclined to use in the target market to understand the competition that the products will potentially face.
Through the comparisons, analyze the advantages and disadvantages of the products and optimize the following marketing promotion.
 You will probably be asking: How could we swiftly accumulate information as a foreigner? A little piece of advice from Ddu, browse the local BBS being used for communicating between doctors or patients. You may discover some unexpected and valuable information, or you could just go straight by phoning the targeted local doctors.
  1. Competitor Information
It is a well-known fact that you can never know enough about your competitors. Specific information on the listed products such as manufacturers, distributors, time to market, indications for the population, price, sales, user evaluation, etc., all need to be understood.
In addition to this, pay attention to competing products in the registration stage. When facing a potential competitor, track the registration progress of the products in real time and consider the response strategy in advance.
Tip: Competitor information can be acquired from the FDA website of targeted countries.
  1. Registration Regulations
Unlike other industries, the biggest barrier to enter pharmaceutical foreign trading is the product registration. None of the other procedures can proceed without the registration. Therefore, before initiating the project, it’s an essential step to combine products with corporate qualifications, contrasting local registration regulations and proceeding with the feasibility assessment of registration.
The assessment can be carried out in conjunction with the registration regulations published by the local Ministry of Health's official website, including GMP qualifications, product quality and clinical data.
  1. Feasibility Assessment
There is one final step in the marketing research process. After completing the 4 main parts of gathering information, the final phase will be drawing a conclusion according to the feasibility assessment. This conclusion has to be based on objective facts. Also, list the uncertain factors for reference during the team discussions.

The elements above are the points of a reliable medical product marketing research report.
After the investigation, further analysis of market prospects, professional registration evaluations, customer communication and forward communication will be necessary to make the final call.

What to Consider When Buying New Medical Device Products
As a result of constant advances in the medical industry, there are numerous medical devices products on the market, often making it difficult to choose the most reliable ones, an important decision since some of these devices will be used to save or prolong patients’ life. There are various aspects to consider and so we here at Ddu have listed 3 of the top to consider:
Product quality
In most cases, the first non-product factor that buyers consider is pricing. For example, a customer buying a kitchen knife may be very price sensitive. If one kitchen knife is $19.99 and the other is $39.99, chances are they’ll choose the cheaper one. With medical device products, quality is however, always the number one priority. Going for the cheaper version might be cheap in the short term but costly in the long run.
Brand Reputation
People are more likely to buy new medical device products from companies with familiar brands or brands with a good reputation. In general, companies with a good reputation usually has good after-sale services too.
Products Features
Before purchasing any new medical device product, you should be able to acquire all the details regarding the product’s features and easy-to-operate products that will save you time. This will allow you to compare various products in order to make the right decision.

Efficiency and Reliability of Clinical Laboratory & Analytical Equipment -The Medical Analyst and Truth Teller

"/

In the medical field, no matter what kind of science or technological issue we are dealing with, laboratory equipment is essential for all researching, experimenting and measuring processes, hence, the efficiency and reliability of the laboratory equipment are to key the indexes we need to focus on.
Laboratory equipment basically plays two roles for medical research when it comes to efficiency and reliability.
The first one is as an analyst, which means they need to collect and analyze the relevant information and data before drawing a conclusion. Taking a Clinical Chemistry Analyzer as example, it equips photo-metric and color-metric testing, ion-selective potentiometry and the latex agglutination functions, with the perfect combination and coordination of these technologies, samples such as blood serum, plasma, and urine are examined to detect metabolic functions, diabetes or cardiac markers according to the sample level of proteins, enzymes, and electrolytes. When samples have been delivered to the laboratory, the speed of analyzing could potentially affect the patient’s best treatment opportunities, under these circumstances, the importance of the efficiency is quite obvious.
Not only is the efficiency very important, but so is the reliability. As a truth teller, if anything went wrong during the research process, the consequences could be fatal. For this reason, the of the laboratory equipment itself is a primary aspect which needs to be checked. Certification institutions such as ISO, FDA or CE could provide a general guarantee. Further certifications are necessary to ensure the reliability of the equipment’s functionality.
Costliness and complexity are the two biggest barriers for global buyers to overcome when trying to purchase laboratory equipment. To pick an ideal product for your own medical research, the global cross-border medical trade B2B e-commerce platform, Ddu (www.drugdu.com) has carefully created a hand-picked laboratory equipment catalog for you, allowing you to contact quality partners swiftly and precisely.

"/

As basic medical tools, surgical instruments play an important role to provide surgery and rescue actions for patients, hence, the safety and efficiency of basic surgical instruments are key to surgeries. As a result of extensive experience regarding the searching of targeted products for the clients, we here at Ddu (www.drugdu.com) the leading global pharmaceutical and medical devices B2B platform, have taken surgical instruments as an example to demonstrate how to select products.

1. Cost-effectiveness of basic surgical instruments
The development of the surgical field has resulted in a wide range of changes and instruments for surgery are constantly being improved allowing a single surgical instrument to fulfilled more than one medical role. Basic surgical instruments such as scalpels, suture needles, and tweezers have a very high appearance rate during surgery since they are widely adopted and easy to operate. Thus, due to these market demands, the price is an important factor for most buyers when purchasing surgical instruments in large quantities.

2. The safety of basic surgical instruments
Only surgical instruments that comply with relevant national safety regulations can obtain market access permits. For surgical instruments with ISO and CE certification, their safety and efficacy level will go through a further certification process to accumulate more reliability from the market. When purchasing surgical instruments, it should also be confirmed whether the specification model is consistent with the registration certificate and whether the product registration certificate is within the validity period.

3. Practicality of basic surgical instruments
Due to the time it takes to conduct a surgery, high-quality, user-friendly surgical instruments that help to shorten operation times are preferred. An example of this is bipolar tweezers with a rotary handle, different from the traditional ones. Bipolar tweezers’ handles can be held independently from the rotating shaft, allowing them to be handled with ease while reducing fatigue.

The market for basic surgical instruments is quite large, and the functions of different instruments vary. It’s not that easy to keep every instrument’s characteristics in mind.
